A banker from the South, Evans R. Dick chose the site of The Castle for its commanding views of the Hudson River from Bear Mountain to Storm King. The Castle was among the first reinforced concrete structures built in the United States, and these modern materials make possible the vast rooms and ceiling spans that are a feature of the homes there, and that make them ideal for displaying art or antiques. The Moorish flavor of The Castle’s exterior derives from the Alhambra, which Dick and his wife had seen on their honeymoon in Spain. Arched and balconied windows carry a touch of this flavor inside The Castle, while allowing each residence to be finished according to the owners own taste and style.
